Executive Director Testifies Before EPA Local Government Advisory Committee

Boston – November 6, 2008. PP&L;s executive director Larry Chretien appeared before the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Committee. Chretien explained to a couple of dozen local officials from around the country how the EPA could provide technical assistance to cities, towns and counties as they attempt to shift from fossil fuels to energy efficiency and renewable energy. Chretien said that the EPA does a good job today on providing such assistance with limited resources, but that more will have to be done in days ahead as energy prices rebound and as the nation addresses the problem of global warming. He said that local communities, however well run or well intended, do not have the expertise to plan and sort out their energy options in ways that would lead to optimum results for consumers and taxpayers....Read more

The Providence Journal interviewed People's Power & Light Executive Director Larry Chretien for this excellent article about home energy conservation. While the news about the backlog of energy audits may dissuade you from signing up now, don’t let it. The sooner you sign up, the sooner you’ll be served. It will also give National Grid and the Public Utilities Commission a better idea of how much demand there are for these audits, something RI policymakers are trying to determine right now.
